Palestinian artist and digital art pioneer Samia Halaby presents a special performance with her Kinetic Painting Group, featuring live music by Kevin Nathaniel Hylton, Hasan Bakr, and Tomchess.
Halaby began creating digital “kinetic paintings” in the late 1980s using self-taught programming skills in BASIC and C on the Amiga Commodore 1000. She later developed her own Kinetic Painting Program to manipulate abstract visuals in real time, blending them with live music in improvisational performances she describes as “social and alive.”
This event is part of the MoMA installation "Hyundai Card First Look: Samia Halaby" and includes a post-performance conversation with the artist, the musicians, and MoMA’s Abby Hermosilla.
