Rula Halawani has recently been awarded the Camargo Foundation Fellowship in Cassis, France, and is set to join the SAWA SAWA Residency Program from September 10, 2025, to January 10, 2026.
The residency, designed specifically for Palestinian artists, aims to support, uplift, and help sustain the Palestinian cultural scene. Encouraged by the French Institute of Palestine, this initiative seeks to expand resources for Palestinian artists and promote the many facets of their artistic expression.
During her time in Cassis, Rula Halawani will focus on a new project titled The Last Chapter in which she will be developing a new book that brings together three of her previous bodies of work: For My Father, For My Mother, and For Them. The residency program will also allow Halawani to explore the Palestinian MuCEM archives, and incorporate edited images from her research into her book project. Halawani’s project aims to portray the lives of those who experienced the Nakba, as seen through the memories of those who have passed, while also reflecting on her own life as a Palestinian artist living and working in Jerusalem.
