Intimate Terrains: Representations of a Disappearing Landscape

Rula Halawani and Samia Halaby will be participating in the upcoming exhibition Intimate Terrains: Representations of a Disappearing Landscapeat the Palestinian Museum in Birzeit, Palestine from 2 April - 31 December, 2019. The exhibition explores the changing representation of landscape by Palestinian artists and their relationship to place and location through the themes of erasure, fragmentation, distance and belonging. Rula Halawani is exhibiting four photographs from the series For My Father, 2015 and Samia Halaby is represented with a chalk pastel drawing from 1995.

 

Rula Halawani will be exhibiting four photographs from the series For My Father, 2015, in which the artist documents the Israeli occupation of Palestine from the vantage point of fading recollection. By creating a photographic record in remembrance of her late father, Halawani revisits several sites throughout historic Palestine, specifically the scenery that shaped her childhood memories. Samia Halaby’s will be represented with Untitled, 1995, chalk pastel on fine art paper, 77.5 x 55 cm.
