Tammam Azzam

Artist in Residence at Vancouver Biennale 2015
Tammam Azzam, currently participating in the Artist in Residence program at the Vancouver Biennale, unveiled his multimedia installation on 4 July 2015 in Squamish, along with the works of his three fellow residents—Kristin McIver, Rathin Barman, and Jonathan Luckhurst.

His public art intervention consists of a brown leather suitcase laying flat open on the grass to reveal a miniature garden. It follows the biennale’s theme Open Borders / Crossroads and investigates the power of cross-cultural dialogue in today’s globalised art scene. In the continuity of his residency, Azzam will also be giving a talk at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education on 7 July, with the aim to engage local audiences and open a dialogue about the diversity of practices across borders.
