Khaled Hafez

Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale, Malta | Biennial of the South in Caracas, Venezuela
In December, Khaled Hafez will participate in both the Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale in Malta and the first Biennial of the South in Caracas, Venezuela.

The Mdina Biennale focuses on the notion of whether an artist is affiliated with a particular faith, given that the creative act of making art is often seen as a spiritual experience. The Biennale runs from 13 November  – 7 January under the direction of Dr. Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci. Hafez is featured with Red Lines (2013), a mixed media sculpture of a donkey that refers to political censorship.

The inaugural theme of the Biennial of the South is People in Resistance, and aims to bring together artists from across the southern hemisphere through a dynamic forum that encourages an exchange of ideas. The Biennial is on view until from 28 February 2016, and will feature Hafez’s video installation On Noise, Sound & Silence (2013), which explores the concept of memory.
