Ayyam Gallery's Young Collectors Auction III a Huge Success

After months of preparation and much anticipation, Ayyam Gallery's third installment of its widely popular Young Collectors Auction was met with great fanfare and dozens of blockbuster sales. Organized as a venue for blue-chip art at affordable prices, the auction drew a full house of seasoned patrons and burgeoning art enthusiasts from across the region. Containing nearly 50 lots, the public sale exceeded expectations and grossed over $250,000 USD. Buyers vied for works with competitive bidding and an infectious enthusiasm, making for a dynamic atmosphere that demonstrated the established place of Middle Eastern art within the international art market.

Held at Ayyam's expansive Dubai outpost on April 30, 2010, the public sale featured a staggering collection of Arab and Iranian art. Highlights included prominent figures such as Samia Halaby, Assad Arabi and Safwan Dahoul alongside Shadi Ghadirian and Golnaz Fathi, artists who have recently gained world stardom. Yet the evening belonged to young and emerging artists such as Kais Salman, Omran Younes and Tammam Azzam, whose work fetched impressive prices and confirmed the growing appeal of Arab art among investors.

Ayyam's successful in-house auction came on the heels of Christie's Dubai recent landmark sale, which realized three times its pre-sale estimates and set 23 new world auction records for regional artists—a powerful testament to the rapid rise of the Middle Eastern art scene as it becomes an exciting global hot spot.
