Fadi Yazigi
Biography
The cast of creatures conceived by Fadi Yazigi has served him proud. His inimitable style - whether executed in bronze, ceramic or on canvas - has won him international acclaim and placed him at the top of the Syrian Contemporary art scene.
Born in Latakia, north-western Syria, in 1966, Yazigi studied sculpture at the University of Damascus Faculty of Fine Arts. Dedicated and disciplined, he often spends up to 70 hours a week in his studio hidden amid the alleyways of old Damascus. This is his playroom where he experiments with myriad techniques; building relationships with a range of media, adapting his distinctive style to each. The child-like figure that appears in Yazigi's bronze sculptures was inspired by the cacophony of one-dimensional characters found on his canvases.
His work has appeared at auctions of Contemporary Arab art held by Christie's and Sotheby's both in London and Dubai. To date, Yazigi has exhibited across the Middle East, Europe and the USA. No wonder then that his works can be found in private and public collections worldwide.
